I was reading the “about” page of We Are Not Numbers, a Gaza-based nonprofit organization, and it mentions that Ahmed Alnaouq met co-founder Pam Bailey after his brother, Ayman, was murdered by Israel in 2014. And it says that Ahmed sunk into a depression from which he thought he’d never return at that time. It’s devastating to read that knowing that Ahmed Alnaouq’s family has been pretty much annihilated in the past month. So many of his family members have been slaughtered with Israeli bombs that the exact number has been hard to track, but it’s over 20 family members and many were children. Iirc, even his best friend and the child that best friend named after Ayman have been killed by Israel. Idk how he functions day-to-day. Idk how he doesn’t fucking attack the journalists who ask him to condemn Hamas before talking about the double-digit death toll of his civilian family. People from Gaza are surviving unfathomable suffering even if they’re living in diaspora…I’m from the West Bank and I can’t imagine. I can’t wrap my mind around that grief. My god
